We are so thrilled to have been featured in VoyageMIA as part of a series featuring inspiring stories from in and around South Florida. In the article, our (handsome) Co-Founder Juan Pablo Vergara shares all about the trials and tribulations of starting a brewery and how they came to call Little River and Miami home for Bousa Brewing. Here is a taste of the interview from VoyageMIA:
Juan Pablo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Previously, I owned a brewery in Bogota, Colombia named Beergara which gave me inspiration. I decided to learn more about beer at the Siebel Institute in Chicago, IL, this is where I met my business partner, Enrique Jose Garcia. At the time we were planning, there was only one brewery in Miami. We thought Miami was the perfect place to start as they were behind the ball and now, a booming industry for breweries.
The project took 3 years, 18 months, more than we were expecting but now fully operational and worth the wait!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nice question, what is a smooth road? As mentioned, it took us 18 more months than anticipated to open our doors. We struggled a lot with permits and getting the building ready to brew.
